And when the dust settled, Short had done just that.
Sweeping the 400, 800, and 1500 freestyle, there was nothing that the USA, or any other country, could throw at Short to stop him in distance freestyle. 3:40.52 in the 400 free saw him break Ian Thorpe’s legendary meet record from 1999. 7:37.02 in the 800 free saw him break another Pan Pacs meet record. And he capped it off with a 14:33.97 in the 1500 free, breaking Grant Hackett’s astounding Aussie record from 2001. By all accounts, including his own, it was a perfect meet.
