Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said that President Abdel Fattah-al Sisi directed the formation of Egypt’s National Committee for the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and the completion of Egypt’s membership obligations, underscoring Cairo’s commitment to an active role within African institutions.
During his meeting with members of the newly reconstituted national committee, Abdelatty said that Egypt’s engagement builds on its recent leadership roles, including chairing the African Union in 2019, COMESA in 2021, and the AU Development Agency–NEPAD steering committee since 2023.
He also congratulated committee members and praised their coordination with state institutions in completing Egypt’s comprehensive national review.
Additionally, the minister noted that Egypt was among the first countries to submit its national report under the mechanism in 2019, which was endorsed by the African summit in 2020.
The top diplomat affirmed that continued participation in APRM initiatives will allow Egypt to contribute expertise in capacity building and institutional reform while strengthening coordination among national bodies.
