After a 16-0 start to the season, Vanderbilt went on a three-game losing streak before getting back in the win column at Mississippi State.
With Kentucky in town on Tuesday night, the Commodores will hit the floor without one of their top players. According to the SEC‘s availability report, Duke Miles, Vandy’s second-leading scorer with 16.6 points per game, won’t play. The reason for his absence has not been made public.
After spending three seasons at Troy, Miles transferred to High Point, where he was a Big South first-team all-league selection and was the conference’s newcomer of the year. He then went to Oklahoma and averaged 9.4 points a game.
He’s now at Vandy, where he’s helped the Commodores to their best start in school history despite their recent stumble. Vandy enters the night in a three-way tie for third place in the SEC (4-3).
That puts it a game back of Kentucky, who’s 5-2 in league action. The Wildcats have rattled off five wins in a row, including a 72-63 win over Ole Miss in their last outing. Kentucky will be missing Kam Williams, Jaland Lowe, and Jayden Quaintance.
Tipoff from Memorial Gymnasium is set for 9 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN.
