Dolby’s career has always blurred the lines between music and invention. Best known to mainstream audiences for his 1982 hit “She Blinded Me With Science,” he was also a sought-after collaborator and producer, working with artists including Foreigner, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, George Clinton, and David Bowie. He famously shared the stage with Bowie at Live Aid and later performed with Pink Floyd's Roger Waters at The Wall in Berlin.
Beyond music, Dolby founded a Silicon Valley technology company in the 1990s and co-invented the polyphonic ringtone technology used in billions of mobile devices. He also served as music director for TED Conferences for more than a decade and is currently an endowed professor at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
