This week, they're back on screen together once again in The Rip, a new Netflix crime thriller from writer/director Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Copland). In the film, they play two partners in the Miami police who discover millions of pounds during an operation, shortly after one of their colleagues had been shot dead in suspicious circumstances.

Indeed, writer/director Joe Carnahan explained that the inspiration for his script came from the experiences of one of his friend, telling Tudum: "The Rip came out of a deeply personal experience that my friend went through, both as a father and as head of tactical narcotics for the Miami Dade police department."
"My enduring love for those classic ‘70's cop thrillers that really valued the character and interpersonal relationships and became touchstones of that era," he said. "Films like Serpico and Prince of The City and more recently, Michael Mann's Heat.”
In other words, the basis for the script is a true story, but it's also been given something of a Hollywood makeover.

"Joe [Carnahan], I think, wisely took advantage of... if you know who Matt or I are, you're probably familiar also with the fact that we're friends, and that actually can be quite helpful.," he told Parade.
