ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Monroe High School football team got national recognition Wednesday when Rep. Joe Morelle gave them a shoutout on the floor of Congress.
The team, known as the Red Jackets, made history as the first-ever Rochester City School District Class B State Champions. The team beat Westchester County’s Sleepy Hollow 34 – 0 in the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse in December.

“This team showed us what is possible when talent meets determination, when hard work rises above the challenges you face, and when young people refuse to be defined by the obstacles in front of them,” Morelle said. “They believed in each other, they believed in themselves, and they showed New York State what Rochester pride looks like.”
The Red Jackets were honored at Rochester City Hall shortly after the team took home victory. Mayor Malik Evans presented each member with a certificate.
