2026 PRO SWIM SERIES – AUSTIN
January 14-17, 2026 Austin, Texas Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center Pre-Scratch Psych Sheets All the Links LCM (50 meters)In November, USA Swimming announced a new format for the Pro Swim Series, which is designed to help swimmers prepare for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
This new format introduces semifinals in some events at each of the four stops and a prelims/finals format for one distance race per leg of the series. The first stop kicks off in Austin tomorrow, so here is a refresher about the new format, and what the rest of the series will look like.
Previously, all shorter events (400 and below) were raced prelims/finals and all distance events were (800/1500 freestyle) were timed finals with the top eight swimmers racing in the finals session of the meet. This meant the meet was raced over four days with one distance session on night one and three prelims/finals days.
Now, the format allows the opportunity for one semifinal and final race in every event (200 and below) over the four stops, and a finals race in every distance event (400 and above). This means that the event schedule will change every meet as different events have semifinal and final opportunities. It also means that the meet has been shifted to four days of prelims/finals with eight total sessions.
The first stop in Austin will feature semifinals for all four 50s of stroke and the 200 IM, and prelims and finals for the women’s 800 freestyle. The men’s 800 freestyle is still timed finals this week.
