Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog will miss “some weeks” with an upper-body injury, according to head coach Jared Bednar.
The Denver Post’s Corey Masisak reported the update on the X platform Tuesday morning from Tampa Bay.

Landeskog suffered the injury in the second period against the Florida Panthers on Sunday. He caught an edge on his left skate and plummeted into the post of the Panthers’ net.

Head trainer Matt Sokolowski and Nathan MacKinnon helped get him up and off the ice after being down for a few minutes, but he was unable to skate on his own. He did not return to the game.
The 33-year-old forward appeared to have injured his ribs. His knee was the greatest concern, but that subsided with the report of an upper-body injury.
Bednar said it is too early to rule out Landeskog’s participation in the Olympics, as he is set to represent Team Sweden next month in Cortina, Milan, Italy.
“He’s going to miss some time. He’s still getting looked at and diagnosed, but did not look comfortable. So, he’s going to miss some time, for sure,” Bednar said after the loss Sunday.
Landeskog’s absence is significant on and off the ice. He has 22 points in 41 games, as his game has progressively improved since the start of the season. Players and staff credit the team’s success to his return after missing three seasons due to a significant knee injury, which required several surgeries and extensive recovery time.
In addition to Landeskog’s injury, the Avs are missing top defenseman Devon Toews. He went hard into the boards vs the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. He finished the game but did not play in the matchup against the Panthers. Bednar said he is out week-to-week.
The Avalanche are also missing forward Joel Kiviranta and goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood. They are both day-to-day with upper-body and lower-body injuries, respectively.
