Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard’s collegiate career came to an end at the Rose Bowl Thursday evening. The senior from Las Vegas has graduated and will likely declare for and be selected in the early rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft.
In what was his final game, he showed up as the Crimson Tide’s most reliable receiver, leading his team in receiving yards with 60 and yards per reception with 15.
After the loss, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said that it was hard to look Bernard in the eye because it made him emotional.
He added that a lot of the emotions he was feeling came from knowing what Bernard had done for the program.
Bernard ended the season as the Crimson Tide’s leading receiver with 802 yards and seven touchdowns. Throughout his time with the team, he earned 1,596 yards through the air and scored 12 touchdowns.
He spent his freshman year at Michigan State before transferring to Washington to play for DeBoer’s Huskies in 2023. The pass-catcher then followed DeBoer to Tuscaloosa after he took the vacant head coaching position.
“It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made,” Bernard said. “I’m grateful that Coach DeBoer allowed me to have the opportunity to have the opportunity to come back to Washington and then follow him to The University of Alabama.”
Bernard praised DeBoer as a mentor.
“He’s made a big impact on my life,” Bernard said. “He’s helped me grow, not just as a football player, but as a young man growing up in this crazy world.”
He ended his final press conference with Alabama relaying a sentiment that he’s preached throughout his career: his faith.
“I just want to give glory to my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for allowing us to have this opportunity, for allowing this team to be here together in California and enjoy this moment,” he said. “Even though it didn’t go the way we wanted, still a lot to be grateful for.”
