ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Yellow Alert Wednesday for increasing snow across the region this afternoon and tonight. Some lake snow develops south of Rochester off Lake Erie this morning ahead of the more widespread snow. Most of the areawide snow will be light to moderate but a few heavier squalls may develop this evening. Be prepared for wintry road conditions with a few inches of snow and some wind for your New Year’s Eve plans. Most of the snow will be gone by midnight but a few lingering lake flakes will continue into Thursday morning. Snow totals through Thursday morning will average 3-6 inches with a bit more possible near Lake Ontario, especially in Wayne County. Locally higher amounts in Genesee and Wyoming County as well.

Heading into the New Year our Threat Tracker goes back to green. Plenty of cold weather and flurries but local lake snows Friday and this weekend don’t appear to heavy. At this time no big amounts are anticipated but will need to watch for timing and local impacts through Sunday. More weak systems move through next week with a slow moderation in temps later next week possible. Stay tuned to News10NBC for updates as the snow arrives Wednesday afternoon.
