For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

New Jersey’s Serena Dickey has committed to swim at the University of Illinois in the fall of 2027.

Living in Mountain Lakes, Dickey is a versatile swimmer who shows particular strength in the butterfly, medley, and mid-distance events. She currently competes for the Lakeland Hills Family YMCA and Mountain Lakes High School.

“I am so excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Illinois!! I am beyond grateful for my family, coaches at LHY, and friends who have supported me every step of the way. I would also like to say a special thank you to Coach Jeana, Kyle, and Jerod for giving me this amazing opportunity. Can’t wait for what’s next! GO ILLINI ”

Dickey was a finalist at the 2025 YMCA National Short Course Championships in the spring, placing 6th in the 200 fly (2:02.02), 10th in the 200 IM (2:04.19), and 11th in the 100 fly (55.36). Her performances in the 100 fly and 200 IM remain lifetime bests.

Dickey also earned several personal bests the year prior at the same meet. She placed 5th in the 500 free (4:57.17), 9th in the 200 fly (2:00.74), 17th in the 100 fly (55.42), and 17th in the 400 IM (4:20.98). All of those swims remain lifetime bests except for the 100 fly.

In addition, Dickey led off Lakeland’s 400 free relay with a personal best 100 free time of 51.73, helping the team place 10th. She also posted a personal best in the 200 free (1:51.58) as the leadoff swimmer for the 800 free relay, which finished 14th.

Over the summer, Dickey was the 2025 YMCA National Long Course champion in the 200 fly, setting a personal best time of 2:16.31 in the final. She also finished 3rd in the 200 free (2:06.53), 4th in the 400 free (4:24.97), and 3rd in the 400 IM (5:01.81).

Dickey contributed to several relay performances for Lakeland at the championship as well. She helped the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay win, the 200 free relay place 6th, and the 400 and 800 free relays place 8th.

Illinois’s women’s team placed 13th out of 14 teams at the 2025 Big Ten Conference Championships. Already, Dickey’s 200 fly time would have ranked as the second-fastest on Illinois’s roster last season. The quickest fly times for the team were posted by senior Sydney Stoll in the 100 fly (53.97) and junior Alexis Wendel in the 200 fly (2:00.43).

Dickey will join Ashlyn Bolyard, Reilly Lefsrud, and Lulu Negro on campus in 2027. Bolyard also shows strength in the 100 fly (55.13).
