Bears Bits: Some Monangai Numbers, Keenum Watch, Two Old Friends Return, More ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

It’s been a rough week in the land of Bears fandom. First, Caleb Williams suffered a hamstring injury late in the game on Sunday, which, while more optimistic than originally thought, will likely cost him Monday night’s contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. Just as we could almost squint hard enough to see a path to victory with Tyson Bagent under center, we got more bad news.

According to Ian Rapoport, Bagent is dealing with concussion symptoms (likely stemming from the Dallas Turner suplex on the final play of Sunday’s loss to the Vikings) and has been placed in the league’s concussion protocol, seriously putting his availability for this week’s MNF contest with Philly. A lot can change between now and next Monday, and Thursday’s initial injury report will tell us a lot. Still, for now, we’re looking at the possibility of Case Keenum—who hasn’t played an NFL regular-season game since Christmas Eve 2023—starting for the Bears in primetime. On that front, here’s a really encouraging little stat on running back Kyle Monangai:

— Stat Acccount (@AcccountStat) September 21, 2026 That could be a “Kenneth Walker tweet” or a “Kyle Monangai tweet.” Either way, it’s good for the Bears. For further context, Monangai’s 7.4 yards per carry this season is the most of all runners with at least 15 rushing attempts (via StatMuse). Even funnier, Caleb Williams is second with 7.1 yards per carry, with Kenneth Walker’s 6.2 the next closest behind the Bears running back and quarterback. Monangai was very good in Week 1, and even in a down day for the offense as a whole on Sunday against Minnesota, Monangai led the way with 47 yards on 10 carries and caught two passes for 11 yards. If it’s Keenum under center in Week 3, Monangai will be a big part of the game plan. Monangai wasn’t the only unsung hero from Sunday. Dayo Odeyingbo, who I was pretty critical of on last week’s episode of the BN Bears Podcast, had a pretty good game. He’s currently ranked in the top-25 in quality pressures (h/t Brandon Thorn on X) Here’s an All-22 cut-up of Dayo from CHGO’s Adam Hoge:

As Luis wrote today, the Bears have ended the Beau Gardner experiment, cutting the rookie long snapper and signing veteran Scott Daly. Daly returns to the Bears for his second stint after being signed off the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad. The veteran long snapper is a Downers Grove native, a Notre Dame alum, and plenty familiar with Ben Johnson, spending three seasons with him in Detroit and one here in Chicago last year. The Bears also signed cornerback Nick McCloud to the practice squad today. McCloud played a lot last season in his first stint with the Bears in the wake of injuries to the secondary. Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday, and while we haven’t heard anything from the team about its severity or his availability for Week 3, this could be a move to prepare for him being unavailable on Monday. If that’s the case, we would likely see rookie Malik Muhammad slide outside in Stevenson’s place. I wrote about that possibility earlier today:
