“We’re a Good Team,” Teuvo TBD, Brossoit’s Return, Prospect Highlights, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

It’s the first Saturday in December, and the Chicago Blackhawks wake up in the No. 1 Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. I have no doubt the usual suspects will jump into the comments and remind us that the Blackhawks are lucky and haven’t played that great every night. My counter arguments:

the Blackhawks have the third-best goal differential in the Western Conference (+7). the Blackhawks have as many regulation wins (12) as Minnesota, Winnipeg, Edmonton and San Jose the Blackhawks rank in the top 10 in the league in power play (9th – 23.2) and penalty kill (4th – 85.3)

Am I saying the Chicago Blackhawks are a lock to make the postseason? No. But maybe, just maybe, the rest of the NHL is just mediocre enough (with the exception of the Avs) that the still growing, developing, improving Blackhawks believing they’re a good team makes them legitimately dangerous this year. Because a lot of the numbers tell us they’re a pretty good team right now, even if some will scream “regression coming” every chance they get. If the players get better as the season progresses…

Blashill on the Blackhawks: "To me, it's more than just a good start. We're a good team."

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) December 5, 2025 Teuvo Teräväinen lost a few teeth on Thursday night when he got hit in the face with the puck late in the game. At practice on Friday, head coach Jeff Blashill said he was sore but should be okay. The Blackhawks will not have a morning skate on Saturday and Teräväinen is a game-time decision, so we won’t know for sure if he’s in or out until Blashill talks (or, possibly, warm-ups). Elliotte Friedman had some nice things to say about Connor Bedard on the Friday edition of the “32 Thoughts” Podcast. We’ll see if this translates to a spot on Canada’s Olympic roster.

Friedman: “There’s nobody that has elevated himself more in the eyes of his peers this year than Connor Bedard. And second place isn’t even close.” t.co/B4OCUkOdJe

— Missin Curfew (@MissinCurfew) December 5, 2025 Pierre LeBrun unloaded some notes in advance of the GM meetings this coming week and a few other topics on Friday morning at The Athletic. He includes a report tying Steven Stamkos to the… New Jersey Devils! One other note from LeBrun that he reports is on the agenda for the GM meetings has to do with the evolving landscape of development levels/leagues: the NCAA, CHL, USHL and others. Here’s his comment there:

There’s been a seismic shift in the grassroots hockey world. Of note, the new CBA calls for each AHL team to be able to roster one 19-year-old player starting next season, but there are still discussions to be had on how exactly that will work. The NHL-CHL agreement has four more years on it, but it can be reopened on the 19-year-old rule prior to June 30 this year. Lots of NHL teams still have questions about this.

In the AHL, Laurent Brossoit got the start for Rockford last night. The IceHogs lost the game 5-3 with Brossoit stopping 27 of 31 in his first game action in almost two full calendar years. Samuel Savoie scored two of Rockford’s three goals. Nick Lardis, Ethan Del Mastro and Gavin Hayes had one assist each. In the WHL, Kamloops lost 7-2 but Nathan Behm picked up an assist. In the OHL, Windsor beat London 4-1. AJ Spellacy scored his ninth goal of the season. Spellacy has now recorded a point in 11 of his last 13 games, during which he has eight goals and four assists. In the NCAA, Adam Gajan stopped 22 of 23 shots as Minnesota-Duluth won 4-1 at Western Michigan. Sacha Boisvert returned for Boston University had had this gorgeous assist on the game-winning goal. The Terriers beat Vermont 2-1.
