Split Comparison

Curtis- Semifinals Pellegrini Curtis- Prelims (Old PB) 50 24.5 25.43 24.81 100 26.79 26.67 27.48 Final 51.29 52.1 52.29

Curtis was out much faster today than Pellegrini was in 2019. Curtis swam to a best time of a 52.29 during prelims and dropped exactly one second tonight, but the difference was seen more from her back half.

Curtis is the top seed heading into tomorrow’s final. The 19 year old has already been on fire this week, most notably splitting a 22.71 to anchor Italy’s mixed 4×50 free relay to a World Record as the team touched in a 1:27.26. Only one other woman, Kasia Wasick of Poland who split a 22.95, swam a sub-23 second split.

With her swim, Curtis now becomes the 14th fastest performer all-time in the 100 free. The Virginia freshman joins the all-time list that also includes fellow Cavaliers Kate Douglass and Gretchen Walsh.
