Elton John knows all about this. He co-wrote--with lyricist Bernie Taupin--and recorded his own holiday classic “Step into Christmas,” originally released in November 1973. Like many holiday classics, the song has had an incredible shelf life and continues to spark airplay and interest every December.
Back in 2009, it was ranked as the ninth-most-played Christmas song of the 2000s in the U.K. and in 2023 it was certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry for sales and streams of 1,800,000 equivalent units. Over in the U.S. in September 2021, the Recording Industry Association of America certified it gold for sales and streams of 500,000 equivalent units.
The video is accompanied with the caption, “If you can’t escape it, you might as well Step Into Christmas! Who’s ready?”
Another fan reacted to the news that Elton has announced a special live gig next year. “Elton John, as your Brazilian fan, my heart is overjoyed that you will be performing at Rock in Rio.I’m counting down the days. I love your music ?❤️❤️,” they wrote.
“You legend. I’m ready to step into Christmas! ❤️?,” yet another one wrote.
“Where do I get these cabinets.. I need Elton singing everytime I open them!” added another.
