ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Threat Tracker continues to highlight Thursday and Friday with a Yellow Alert for some wintry weather. Thanksgiving Day will bring strong gusts 40-50mph with scattered power outages possible. Along with the wind much colder weather moves into the region with some local lake effect snow. No major travel impacts locally but be prepared for changeable conditions, especially west and south of Rochester where a couple inches of snow is possible. After a few lake flakes first thing in the morning for Rochester the rest of the day will bring just flurries as the main areas of lake snow remain well south and north of the metro.
Looking ahead to Friday, the lake effect snow will move in from Lake Ontario and bring accumulations near and east of Rochester. Parts of Wayne County may pick up several inches of snow with an inch or two for Rochester and the eastside. Windy and cold with gusts over 30mph will bring some tricky travel with tough driving conditions for central New York around Syracuse. Lake flakes will slowly fade to flurries heading into the weekend.
Sunday will bring a weak system with some light snow mixed with rain. At this time not looking for much accumulation but will monitor closely for travel to end the holiday weekend. Looking ahead to next week some cold weather on the way with a few systems to watch bringing snow showers and some opportunities for lake effect. Stay tuned to News10NBC for the latest on the wind and snow impacts the next couple of days.
