The arrow is pointing up for Chicago Bears rookies Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III

Pro Football Focus shared a ranking of its 15 best rookies from the 2025 NFL Draft class. And you won’t have to search for long before you see a familiar name. In fact, you’ll see two of them! Because both of the Bears’ first two selections from the 2025 NFL Draft class make the cut here with tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden III checking in among the top-15 of the rookie rankings through 11 weeks of the NFL season.

Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III are two of the NFL’s top rookies in 2025

Things got off to a slow start for Colston Loveland as a rookie in 2025. However, Loveland has been trending in a positive direction in recent weeks. Loveland’s 75.8 overall grade ranks 10th among the qualified tight ends at PFF. The 77.2 receiving grade checks in as the eighth-best number on the site. And let’s not look past the 70.6 run-blocking grade, which checks in as the fifth-best at the position. It’s been an all-around solid showing for Loveland, who is making offseason injury concerns and a sputtering start out of the gate feel like a distant memory.

A look at Colston Loveland’s rookie numbers through 11 weeks:

9 games 33 targets 24 receptions 329 receiving yards 2 touchdowns

My favorite Loveland stat at this point of the season is 128.3 — which is actually the passer rating for Bears quarterback Caleb Williams when targeting the rookie tight end. Of the 24 catches Loveland has hauled in this season from Williams, 14 have gone for first down. You don’t have to squint to see the vision Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson had when drafting Loveland with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. And while I had my doubts when things weren’t going well early, I’m happy to see things are working out.

Not to be left out of the discussion, fellow rookie Luther Burden III is also making waves among NFL rookies. The second-round pick checks in as the 11th-best rookie on PFF’s rankings through 11 weeks. This is what Pro Football Focus’ Lauren Gray had to say about the Mizzou product at this point of the season:

The 21-year-old has now caught 19 of 23 targets for 249 yards and seven explosive gains. He is thriving on screens and play action in his rookie season. Burden has secured each of his nine screen targets for 22 yards, forcing two missed tackles and picking up a first down. He currently ranks seventh in PFF receiving grade on screen plays (82.6). Burden also places sixth in play-action PFF receiving grade (90.1), securing 11 of 12 targets for five explosive gains and a touchdown.

Much like Colston Loveland, it has taken some time for Luther Burden III to gain the trust of second-year quarterback Caleb Williams. But for what it’s worth, it has been worth the wait. Williams has a 128.0 passer rating when targeting Burden. He has completed 18 of 22 passes for 244 yards, and a touchdown. In addition to the looks Burden gets in the screen game, it would be nice to see the rookie get more targets down the field. Perhaps that will come as his playing time continues to tick up.
