A Living Room Made for Christmas Morning
"It has to be the most magical room," Cole says. "It's where everyone meets on Christmas morning." The couple's cowboy-contemporary style comes through in the details: textured stockings, rustic ornaments, pine cones tucked into bowls and garlands and even a cowhide rug used as a tree skirt. Instead of a star on top, the trees in the DeBoer's living room are topped with a cowboy hat. "There's no longer a star at the top of our Christmas tree," Cole says. "It's a cowboy hat this year."

What Cowboy-Contemporary Looks Like for the Holidays
That means the house is filled with rustic materials like cowhide, wood, pinecones and weathered metals, mixed with soft, cabin-inspired elements like chunky knits, warm lighting and neutral garlands. Western touches show up everywhere from the cow-print stockings to the cowboy hat tree topper and Chelsea adds small accent trees throughout the home to create cozy moments in unexpected places.
And despite loving the season, their rural location means that exterior lights rarely make an appearance. "We live in the middle of nowhere," Chelsea says. "Only our friends and delivery drivers see outdoor lights. Cole has considered installing permanent color-changing lights instead. "One of these years, I'll put them up and be done," he says.

Each child also gets a mini tree to decorate however they choose. Last year, their son Watson crafted an ornament out of a paper bowl and markers. "It was so creative and cute," Chelsea says. "They can make their trees however they want."
Their Most Meaningful Holiday Tradition
Cole feels the same. "I'm huge on Santa coming," he says. "I love to make it as magical as I can with gifts everywhere. And we always make a good breakfast. My mom always made cinnamon rolls growing up, so we try to keep that tradition going."
Christmas Memories That Stick With Them Most
Chelsea's favorite childhood memory was waking up on Christmas morning to cinnamon rolls and a warm breakfast. Cole remembers big family game nights on Christmas Eve. Now, as parents of four, they're building new versions of both traditions.
"The fact that the kids ask, 'Are we playing bingo tonight?' or talk about last year's traditions — that means everything," Chelsea says.
