Erdogan says Turkey is firm on implementing the 10 March agreement ...Syria

News by : (ُEnabbaladi) -

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed on Monday, 17 November, his country’s “firm” position on implementing the 10 March 2025 agreement signed between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

In remarks after a Turkish cabinet meeting, carried by the Turkish Anadolu Agency, Erdogan said Ankara believes the agreement will strengthen Syria’s unity, cohesion, and territorial integrity, adding that Turkey is ready to offer every possible contribution to resolve this issue.

In the transitional phase, Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa signed on 10 March, together with the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, an agreement to integrate civilian and military institutions in northeastern Syria into the Syrian government.

Erdogan expressed his satisfaction with the momentum Damascus has recently gained in restoring its international relations.

He said Turkey is working to live in peace “with all our friends and brothers with whom we share history, destiny, and the future.”

Letting go of the past

Erdogan called on the parties in Syria to stop clinging to the past and to look for ways to work within a shared vision for the future.

He added, “No weight should be given to diktats, incitement, or signals coming from those who harbor expansionist ambitions in the region, and everyone must remember the reality that whoever rides someone else’s horse dismounts quickly.”

Erdogan stressed that Turkey considers all components of the Syrian people to be its brothers, and that it wants security, peace, and stability for everyone.

He noted that Turkey will continue working to establish lasting peace and stability in Syria through dialogue with all parties.

He underlined Turkey’s determination to defend peace, justice, stability, development, and shared prosperity along its southern borders, from Iraq to Syria.

Talks with the Americans on integrating the SDF

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the issue of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which use the name Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), was among the key topics he discussed with American officials during his recent visit to the United States.

He added that one of the main factors that caused talks between the Syrian government and the SDF to stall was the tendency of the latter at times to deviate from the agreed track and to seek opportunities in a new regional crisis, stressing that it is necessary to remind them that this pursuit will not benefit them, as he put it.

In an interview with the Turkish channel A Haber broadcast on Saturday, 15 November, Fidan stressed the importance of the talks between the two sides, noting that they had stopped after Israel’s intervention in the south, due to certain developments in the region.

“We must move forward on this issue within a certain shared understanding,” he said, adding that the organization’s integration into the American system under the pretext of fighting the Islamic State group in order to secure certain political gains must be brought to an end at a certain point, in a way that benefits all parties.

He explained that there are negotiations and talks with the Americans to ensure that the discussions reach a specific outcome.
