ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Union of Nurses and Allied Professionals (RUNAP) has started a petition to reverse what they call severe cuts to healthcare benefits for Rochester Regional Health (RRH) employees.
The petition claims some employees will see their premiums rise up to 50 times higher. RUNAP also claims that RRH’s lowest-paid employees will pay more than 13% of their income for the most affordable healthcare plan in 2026, which RUNAP says is over ten times higher than in 2025.
The petition also points out that local competitors like the University of Rochester, offer better coverage for less.
An RRH employee said their monthly premiums are going up by the hundreds, but doesn’t think the coverage through RRH is all that great.
“We’re not really accessing the healthcare system that much. But when we do, it’s very expensive. You know, dental is expensive in general. And it really just deters us from even going to the doctor because of how much it will be,” she said.
She added that the increased costs could drive employees to work elsewhere, and RUNAP indicated that staff vacancy rates are already a concern.
RRH confirmed that it has delayed open enrollment. News10NBC has reached out to RRH for comment on the union’s petition but has not yet received a response.
