ROCHESTER, N.Y. — As the weather is getting chillier in the Rochester area, the community is coming together to make sure everyone stays warm and has a gift for the holiday season.

Coat drive at Hooked Fish Market
The Hooked Fish Market and RCSD No. 9 are teaming up for a coat drive that runs through Thursday, Nov. 20. People can drop off new or gently used coats, gloves, hats, and other winter gear at the fish market on 333 Driving Park Avenue. You can learn more here.
Local New York State holiday donation drives
The New York State Office of General Services is organizing a series of holiday donation drives across the state, including three in the Rochester area. People can donate new and unwrapped toys, coats, school supplies, and non-perishable food items for local community organizations to distribute.
The drives are accepting donations now through Dec. 5. Last year’s drives collected 6,200 donations. Here is where they’re happening:

The House of Mercy has an Amazon Wishlist of what volunteers need the most to support people at the shelter. The list includes winter coats, bedding, new clothes, personal care items, holiday toys, and more.
The House of Mercy also has a food pantry that relies entirely on donations or monetary contributions. You can drop off non-perishable foods on Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 285 Ormond St.
Donation at the Open Door Mission
The Open Door Mission has a list of ways that people can donate to support the people staying at the shelter. Click here to see which items are most in need for clothing, school supplies, toiletries, and furniture. You can also check out the shelter’s Amazon Wishlist.
You can drop off donations to the shelter at 20 North Plymouth Ave. on Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
