He maintained form and in the 1986-87 season headed to Charlton, a month before the UEFA Cup final against Gothenburg (1-2).

In 27 matches he scored three goals, but that was all. Shortly afterwards he was transferred to the reserve team and played his final professional match at only 28 years old.
