Blackhawks 1, Red Wings 4 — Three Stars, Key Takeaways ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The first six minutes of this game are a great example of why staring exclusively at the shots on goal totals can be a lie. The Blackhawks had a 3-1 shots lead but were completely overwhelmed for most of those six minutes. But Chicago won a faceoff, made a good outlet pass and the captain attacked the net to give the Blackhawks an early lead in spite of those rough minutes. When the horn sounded after 20 minutes, Detroit had a 12-5 advantage in scoring chances and 6-2 advantage in high danger chances (according to Natural Stat Trick) but the Hawks took their one-goal lead to the room.

The Red Wings tied the game at 7:31 into the second period — at which point the Blackhawks had killed two penalties in the period already and had yet to register a shot on net (thanks in large part to the PK time). Chicago had a tremendously mediocre middle frame but somehow escaped tied at one. Detroit had an 11-3 advantage in scoring chances and 6-1 advantage in high danger chances in the second period. Shots on net were, officially, 21-11. Yes, it was that one-sided for 40 minutes.

Detroit got a fourth power play early in the third period and made this one count. Lucas Raymond ripped the shot home 69 seconds into the third and the Blackhawks were trailing for the first time. Viktor Arvidsson’s second goal of the night extended Detroit’s lead to two with 4:34 left in regulation. His third into the empty net with 3:15 left in regulation gave him a hat trick after the Blackhawks simply could not keep the puck in the offensive zone.

Star 1: Connor Bedard

Bedard and Roman Kantserov came out of the gates flying tonight. Bedard led the Blackhawks with three individual scoring chances had was credited with both of Chicago’s high danger chances in the first period to go with his game-opening goal. Thru two periods, Bedard had five of the Blackhawks’ 25 total shot attempts.

Star 2: Oliver Moore

The Blackhawks’ best guys in the faceoff circle: Moore (won 8 of 9) and Frank Nazar (won 4 of 8). What makes that interesting: they were on the ice together for 10:04 of Moore’s 11:41. Blackhawks not named Moore or Nazar won 11 of 35 faceoffs. Moore was also credited with three of Chicago’s 19 shots on net.

Star 3: Ian Cole

With Alex Vlasic under the weather but still able to play, the Blackhawks kept Cole surprisingly busy tonight. Cole was credited with two blocked shots and three hits and finished the night skating 21:03. This is just the third time this season Cole has skated over 20 minutes; he posted a season-high 25:42 against the Kings on Tuesday night.

Key Takeaways

Again: Detroit had 23 scoring chances — 12 of which were high danger chances — and 21 shots on net thru two periods but had only one goal to show for it because Spencer Knight was on his game. And that one goal was redirected. Detroit’s second goal he would likely want another look at, and it unfortunately gave the Red Wings a lead. He would have been one of my stars if not for the second goal. In the closing minutes of the game the wheels came off completely. The Blackhawks came into tonight’s game averaging 11.31 blocked shots per 60 minutes as a team. They were credited with seven in the first period (Vlasic and Cole had two each). There was a noticeable outlier in the stats at the end of the second period. In 11:22 of 5-on-5 action, the Blackhawks out-shot the Red Wings 7-2 while Vlasic was on the ice. Here’s Nazar’s penalty shot from the second period.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 30, 2026 The Hawks got one power play in the game. It wasn’t great. With his name getting thrown around in internet trade chatter, Teuvo Teräväinen didn’t have a good night. His inability to keep the puck in the zone twice with the goalie pulled late in the third period was brutal. Finally, here’s the “Welcome Back” video the Red Wings played for Patrick Kane.
