A man was dead and a second injured after a solo car crash into a power pole in Anaheim Wednesday night, Oct. 29, with alcohol and nitrous oxide allegedly found in the car, authorities said.
Anaheim police and firefighters were called just before 10 p.m. to North Muller Street and West Bayport Circle and found the two people trapped inside a Toyota Corolla, Anaheim police Sgt. Matt Sutter said.
The passenger, believed to be a 19-year-old man, died at a hospital, while the 18-year-old driver was recovering, Sutter said.
Driving under the influence “is likely a factor in this incident,” Sutter said.
The Corolla ended up with the driver’s side pinned against the power pole. Firefighters had to cut off the car’s roof to get at least the driver out.
“The passenger was transported to a hospital right away,” Anaheim Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Jim Portillo said.
The crash occurred in an area with a mix of residential and commercial buildings, south of the 5 Freeway.
The passenger’s identity was withheld pending notification of his relatives.
Whether the driver could face criminal charges was unclear.
