Auburn earned its first SEC victory of the season on Saturday in large part because of kicker Alex McPherson. The junior converted all 6 of his field goals in the 33-24 win against host Arkansas.
It was quite the comeback performance for McPherson after he missed a field goal in overtime during Auburn’s loss last weekend vs. Missouri. Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze had an emotional response when discussing McPherson’s phenomenal game.
“He’s the first 1 in my office Monday to say ‘I’m sorry. Coach I lost that game for you.’ I said ‘Dude I believe in you. You’ll make the next one.'” Freeze said while fighting back tears. “Then he ties the school record today with 6, so what a redemption story that is. I’m thrilled for him.”
