ROCHESTER, N.Y. — People on Social Security will soon learn how much they’ll get in their monthly checks next year.
The Social Security Administration will announce the 2026 cost-of-living adjustment on Friday. It was originally set to be announced on Oct. 15, but it was delayed due to the ongoing government shutdown.

Last week, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said the September inflation report will be released on Friday morning. Without the September numbers, the Social Security Administration can’t calculate an accurate cost-of-living adjustment for the following year.
The Senior Citizens League, an advocacy group, predicts the adjustment will be around 2.7%. Last year, the adjustment was 2.5%.
