Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Cerritos, California’s Anthony Dornoff has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Michigan for 2027-28. He wrote on social media:
“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Michigan! Huge shoutout to Coach Rick for guiding me through every step of this journey. I would not be here today without the encouragement and support from my family and teammates. Lastly, thank you to Coach Aaron and Coach Jared for giving me this incredible opportunity to be a Wolverine. Go Blue!”
One of the top IMers in the cohort, Dornoff was our #16 recruit on the Way Too Early list of top boys’ swimmers in the high school class of 2027.
Dornoff swims for Cerritos High School and La Mirada Armada. He kicked off the 2024-25 short-course season at Kevin Perry Invitational, where he logged PBs in the 100 free (47.27), 200 free (1:41.68), 200 fly (1:49.01), and 400 IM (3:48.87). His 400 IM time was an improvement of 5.3 seconds.
At Winter Juniors West, he lowered his 200 fly time to 1:48.76 and won the ‘B’ final of the 400 IM. Immediately thereafter, he competed at CA/NV Sectionals and won the 200 IM with a PB of 1:48.03. He also competed in the 100/200/500 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM.
Dornoff had a big meet at Oceanside Sectionals at the end of February, winning the 200/400 IM with PBs of 1:47.94/3:47.54 and clocking new lifetime bests in the 200 breast (2:00.87) and 200 fly (1:47.66).
He concluded the SCY season with California high school CIF-Southern Section Division 2 Championships, winning the 500 free (4:29.29) and placing 6th in the 100 breast (57.09).
What followed was long-course season, where he began with PBs in the 200 breast (2:24.25) and 200 IM (2:05.04) at PSS Fort Lauderdale and ended with lifetime bests in the 400 free (4:03.16), 50 back (28.62), 100 back (59.76), 200 breast (2:21.45), and 200 IM (2:03.74) at Summer Junior Nationals. He placed 7th in the 400 IM and 9th in the 200 IM in Irvine.
Best SCY times:
200 IM – 1:47.94 400 IM – 3:47.54 200 fly – 1:47.66 200 breast – 2:00.87Dornoff owns the #2 400 IM time in the cohort and is among the 10 fastest in the 200 IM. He is also developing into a reliable breaststroker and 200 flyer. It will be interesting to watch his development over the next 2 years before he heads to Ann Arbor, as the La Mirada posse tends to excel in mid-distance free, 400 IM, and 200 fly. Dornoff will join fellow verbal commits Allen Gyang, Ben Luginski, and Charles Howard in the Michigan class of 2031.
