CUBS LINEUP — The Chicago Cubs have already won this series against the Dodgers while moving to a season-high 16 games over .500. But with a favorable matchup today (and Dylan Cease looming tomorrow), I think we should just go ahead and finish the sweep. Sound like a plan?

Here’s a look at the Cubs lineup for the finale against the Dodgers at Wrigley Field.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

Pete Crow-Armstrong, DH Seiya Suzuki, RF Alex Bregman, 3B Carson Kelly, C Michael Busch, 1B Nico Hoerner, 2B Ian Happ, LF Dansby Swanson, SS Tyrone Taylor, CF

There you go. Just as expected, the Cubs are not going to bench Ian Happ against every single left-handed pitcher, perhaps especially weaker ones (with reverse lefty/righty splits anyway) like today’s opposing starter, Eric Lauer.

That said, Tyrone Taylor does still make his way into the Cubs lineup by way of center field. Pete Crow-Armstrong is not sitting in this one, but he is getting a half-day of rest at DH.

Generally speaking, Taylor is likely fine out there in center field. But of course there’s going to be a defensive drop-off anytime you remove PCA’s glove from a game. And with the wind blowing out and a fly ball pitcher, Shota Imanaga, on the mound for the Cubs … I hope that doesn’t come back to bite them.

With PCA at DH today and Alex Bregman back at third, Pedro Ramirez is on the bench alongside Miguel Amaya, James Triantos, and Michael Conforto.

Los Angeles Dodgers Lineup:

Shohei Ohtani, DH Andy Pages, CF Freddie Freeman, 1B Tommy Edman, LF Kyle Tucker, RF Mookie Betts, SS Max Muncy, 3B Miguel Rojas, 2B Hunter Feduccia, C

Pitching Matchup:

Chicago Cubs: Shota Imanaga, LHP

Shota Imanaga is currently riding one of the best 6-game stretches of his Cubs career, averaging a game score of 60 while allowing just 7 ER total over 35.2 IP (1.77 ERA). During this stretch, his strikeout rate is roughly average, his walk rate is tiny, his groundball rate is up to 39.8% (for him, that’s big), and the quality of contact is horrible (in a good way).

He’ll have a tough challenge here in the finale against the Dodgers with the wind blowing out, but the Dodgers are weaker against left-handed pitching. They’re still a top-seven offense against southpaws, mind you, but they’re the top dogs versus righties.

Some notable matchup history:

Ohtani: 3-12, 2B, BB, 3K Freeman: 1-11, 5K Edman: 4-8, 3HR Pages: 3-8, 2B, HR, 2K Betts: 0-8

Obviously, not huge samples, but worth seeing nonetheless.

Los Angeles Dodgers: Eric Lauer, LHP

The Cubs lineup beat Dodgers All-Star Justin Wrobleski and big deadline acquisition Tarik Skubal. Can they go 3-for-3 against Dodgers lefties by taking down the weakest arm of the series, Eric Lauer?

You’d think. But then again, you’d think the Skubal/Assad matchup would’ve gone the Dodgers’ way, as well. Baseball has a way of doing that.

In any case, Lauer has a 4.50 ERA (5.87 FIP) over 88.0 IP this season. His walk rate is solid, but he’s rarely striking guys out; the barrel rate is high, the groundball rate is low, and he’s giving up a lot of home runs (2.05 HR/9, fourth highest in MLB, min. 80 IP).

With the wind blowing out — and the Cubs’ success versus lefties this season (121 wRC+, best in MLB) — you have to imagine the odds favoring Chicago. We’ll see.
