Aaron Donald Takes Another Step Toward a Return to the NFL ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Aaron Donald is inching his way back into the NFL.

Donald, one of the most accomplished defensive players in league history, had a workout with the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday. The move was made public on the league’s transaction wire, which only adds to the intrigue here.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has the scoop and an explanation of why Donald’s workout was announced like this:

Aaron Donald wanted to do a workout in a football helmet, and even though he did not wear pads during it, he used Rams’ team equipment at their facility during training camp, requiring them to report his activity to the NFL. t.co/4egBgDAiLH

Donald has been flirting with the idea of returning to the NFL since the Rams acquired star pass rusher Myles Garrett in a trade in June. And while Donald hasn’t officially made it back into the fold, it looks like a foregone conclusion that it will happen before the ball goes up in Week 1. If (when?) it does officially happen, teams on the Rams’ 2026 list of opponents have one more star defender to game-plan for this season. As a Bears fan, I’m thankful Chicago’s football team isn’t slated to face L.A. during the regular season.

Will Aaron Donald Come Out of Retirement in 2026?

Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald continues to angle toward a return to the gridiron this season. And a workout with the team on Wednesday marks what I’d consider to be an important step toward his un-retirement. This workout makes me feel like we are painfully close to getting a push notification from Schefter, Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, Jonathan Jones, or one of the other NFL news-breaking insiders announcing Donald’s official return to the Rams.

Once Aaron Donald officially returns, the Rams will be adding an all-time great to an already loaded defense. Check out Donald’s résumé:

10-time Pro Bowler 8-time first-team All-Pro 3-time Defensive Player of the Year All-2010s Team (as selected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame) Super Bowl champion 111 sacks, 176 tackles-for-loss, and 260 quarterback hits in 154 games

Donald is a certified game-wrecker. And while I’m not sure what is left for him to accomplish at age 35. But when you see where the Rams are and browse through their projections, I suppose you can see why he would want to come back and play for that team. Stay tuned.
