Aaron Donald is inching his way back into the NFL.
Donald, one of the most accomplished defensive players in league history, had a workout with the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday. The move was made public on the league’s transaction wire, which only adds to the intrigue here.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter has the scoop and an explanation of why Donald’s workout was announced like this:

And while Donald hasn’t officially made it back into the fold, it looks like a foregone conclusion that it will happen before the ball goes up in Week 1. If (when?) it does officially happen, teams on the Rams’ 2026 list of opponents have one more star defender to game-plan for this season. As a Bears fan, I’m thankful Chicago’s football team isn’t slated to face L.A. during the regular season.

Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald continues to angle toward a return to the gridiron this season. And a workout with the team on Wednesday marks what I’d consider to be an important step toward his un-retirement. This workout makes me feel like we are painfully close to getting a push notification from Schefter, Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, Jonathan Jones, or one of the other NFL news-breaking insiders announcing Donald’s official return to the Rams.
