Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers have a big game in Week 8 against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Tigers enter the game at 5-1 on the season, in large part because of one of the most improved defenses in the country. One of the key contributors on that side of the ball is Whit Weeks, who has 26 tackles entering Saturday.
He has been dealing with an ankle injury for much of the season, and Kelly said on his radio show Thursday night that Week is dealing with a new injury now.
“It’s not the old injury, it’s a new one,” Kelly said.
Whit Weeks has an ankle bone bruise, per Kelly on @LSUradio. “It’s not the old injury, it’s a new one.”
— Dandy Don's LSU Sports (@dandydonlsu) October 17, 2025The timing of this new injury is rough for Weeks, as he is starting to play his best football of the season. Of his 26 tackles on the year, 18 of them have been in the last 2 games against Ole Miss and South Carolina. Last season, he had 120 tackles to lead the team.
Linebackers play a huge role when trying to stop Vanderbilt, as quarterback Diego Pavia has the ability to make a ton of plays with his feet. Whether it is creating more time for a receiver to get open or taking it himself for a big run, Pavia puts a ton of pressure on opposing defenses.
Weeks was officially listed as questionable on the availability report LSU submitted to the conference on Thursday night.
Kickoff between the Tigers and the ‘Dores is at 12 p.m. ET on ABC.
