Comedian Shane Gillis accidentally swore while hosting Saturday Night Live on October 10, and looked as shocked as the audience sounded. The crowd gasped after Gillis got tongue-tied during a Dr. Seuss parody skit and let out an F-bomb, then stuttered as he quickly realized his mistake.
In the skit, cast member Mikey Day played the Cat in the Hat, denying continuous offers of green eggs and ham from Sam I Am, played by Andrew Dismukes. Gillis played Cat in the Hat’s son, trying to intervene and get Sam I Am to leave his dad alone.
Gillis, who was removed from the SNL cast in 2019 but has hosted several times since, came in hot, yelling, “Hey, what the hell is wrong with you? My dad said he doesn’t like them. Walk away!” But when Sam I Am pressured his dad again to try a bite, Gillis snapped, “Bro, it’s a non-starter!
Tripping over his line, Gillis blurted out, “He told me, he said, he doesn’t f—ing” … and then immediately cringed at the word, sputtering, “Jeez! Like ’em.” He bent over in embarrassment and put his hand up to apologize, but the skit kept going.
omg Shane Gillis just accidentally dropped the f-bomb live on SNL. this was NOT planned, and Andrew Desmuke’s stunned face says it allShane: “He said he doesn’t fuckin’– geez! Oh no!” pic.twitter.com/0SMz4qCH6A
— Spencer Althouse (@SpencerAlthouse) October 11, 2026Later in the sketch, Day circled back to the slip-up by shouting, “Zachary’s the one who’s going. I want you out of this house. You’re a loser, and you said a bad word!”
“I did,” Gillis smirked. In the closing moment of the sketch, he also said, “Sorry about earlier!”
The in-studio audience gasped and nervously laughed right after Gillis’ slip, and viewers at home were equally stunned, flooding social media with reactions.
One tweeted, “Welp, Shane Gillis may have just lost his golden ticket with that F bomb. SNL kicked him off of the cast once, and has been begging him back to host every year. Usually cursing leads to an automatic black list period.”
“SNL Guest Host Shane Gillis (just) said the F word on the show live,” another tweeted. “He shocked himself doing that. Never heard that live on the show before. I know it wasn’t planned.”
