The NFL Trade Deadline is coming soon. And because the Chicago Bears are riding the high that comes with winning in dramatic fashion on Monday Night Football, I can understand why fans are asking about possible trade targets to help this team.
Besides, if a three-game winning streak doesn’t have Bears fans thinking about adding at the upcoming NFL Trade Deadline, then an upcoming schedule that could conceivably put Chicago’s football team at 5-3 or 6-2 ahead of the deadline will likely do the trick. But no matter how you slice it, the NFL Trade Deadline is coming at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 4. In other words, we’ve got 19 days until teams can tweak their rosters via trade.
What will the Chicago Bears do?
Chicago Bears rumors ahead of the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline?
In a lengthy mailbag session, Chicago Tribune Bears reporter Brad Biggs evaluates the landscape for the Bears ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline. And while he doesn’t offer up any specifics in terms of potential targets who could be on Bears General Manager Ryan Poles’ radar to help first-year Head Coach Ben Johnson, Biggs shares two things I felt were worthy of re-sharing in this post:
“You’re asking about trade possibilities, and maybe there’s a move out there that makes sense for Poles and Johnson in the big picture, one that has an impact on the roster now and also makes sense for 2026 and 2027. The cost is what you have to weigh, and that’s before considering salary-cap implications.” “…don’t completely discount the idea the Bears could trade a player. If a team has a need for an experienced offensive tackle, maybe Braxton Jones could be available. That would leave second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo as the swing tackle. Jones would be a rental because he’s in a contract year, so the return would be small, but in a world where everyone wants to talk about potential moves, there’s another idea to file away.”My read on Biggs’ assessment is that if the Bears were to make a deal at the NFL Trade Deadline, it wouldn’t be an all-in type of trade for a rental player. Instead, the vibe here is that Poles could target a player who will be on the roster for at least the next two seasons. It is a difficult needle to thread, but it isn’t something we can dismiss based on Poles’ aggressiveness while making trades in years past.

In theory, I do not love the idea of trading away offensive line depth. Heck, I’d love to add to that position group at the NFL Trade Deadline. Moving a player off the roster with starting experience would also give me pause. But trading Braxton Jones after he was benched in favor of Theo Benedet makes sense. I don’t imagine he would fetch much in a trade, but perhaps there is a deal that could be made between two teams looking for different things.
With that in mind, I found this trade proposal from ESPN’s Bill Barnwell worth chewing on:
BEARS GET: Raiders edge defender Tyree Wilson RAIDERS GET: Bears offensive tackle Braxton JonesAnd for what it’s worth, Barnwell’s logic is sound. The Raiders would get a starting-caliber left tackle who could play himself into he team’s long-term plans. At a minimum, Jones could play well enough to be signed away in free agency and make enough money on his next contract to net Vegas a compensatory draft pick. On the other side of the coin, the Bears could bring on Wilson as a change-of-scenery project and hope that Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen gets the most out of a 2023 top-10 pick who hasn’t developed the way the Raiders hoped.
If you recall, this front office did extensive work on Tyree Wilson ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. So I can see Poles wanting to roll the dice on a player with a first-round pedigree who hasn’t lived up to his potential. Sure, I know that it didn’t work when Chicago claimed offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood off waivers. But that shouldn’t stop the Bears from trying to make “fetch” happen with another former uber-prospect.
In the end, the NFL Trade Deadline should be fascinating to follow — especially if the Bears keep up their winning ways.
