Derek Chisora has been called out by Zhilei Zhang, who is keen to step in and face the Briton on December 13.
‘WAR’ is preparing to make what he claims to be the 50th and final bow of his stellar heavyweight career in Manchester on December 13.
Chisora is expected to return before the end of 2025 but is yet to find an opponentGettyThe Briton has been linked with an array of the blue-riband division’s top talent, but several deals have failed to materialised.
As a result, Frank Warren is now looking for an opponent for Chisora and rising star Moses Itauma who is set to compete on the same bill.
The veteran himself reeled off a three fight hit-list over the weekend which included Deontay Wilder, Jarrell Miller and a potential trilogy bout with Dillian Whyte.
But Chinese heavyweight Zhang is keen to join the potential suitors as he looks to return for the first time since a KO defeat to Agit Kabayel in February.
He said in a social media call-out: “I’m thinking about someone.
“I want to fight you. I want to bang you. Maybe, you want to bang me too.”
It was all said during a comical video, which included previous footage of the pair together.
Chisora at the time had watched the powerful star from ringside, and suggested that the pair should fight to which his potential rival accepted.
But it is unclear if the Zhoukou native features in Chisora’s plans.
Albeit it would be a well-matched contest given the veteran is also now 42-years-old, and like Chisora, is coming to the back end of his squared circle career.
And Zhang wants to win the race to face Chisora despite not being originally named as an optionMark Robinson/MatchroomWhat is next for Derek Chisora?
It is unclear what is next for the Finchley slugger, who has surprisingly risen into form at the back end of his career.
Chisora is ranked in second with the IBF, and was backed to launch a surprising final assault towards current undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.
But for now, a rematch is seen as off the cards with ‘WAR’ likely to focus on fan-friendly bouts.
Itauma too will compete on the cards, and rumours have gathered pace that the pair could touch gloves to prevent the card from collapse.
But promoter Warren insists the card will be salvaged, although they won’t fight each other.
“There’s no chance as it stands [Chisora vs Itauma],” Warren added.
Chisora is in fine fettle after back-to-back wins over Joe Joyce and Otto WallinGetty“It was explored, yes, but there were no legs in it. In an ideal world we want them both to box on that night.
“We want that one to be finalised this week. We want to get it done. We thought we had it done.
“What we were working on sort of fell apart but we are back to work on it. We will see what happens.”
