More from Cubs manager Craig Counsell on the positives of how the season played out (Marquee): “I think it’s the five games we played at Wrigley Field in the playoffs kind of tells you what means so much to it. I think it meant so much to our players to do that, to provide that for our fans. And that’s what you do: You honor the uniform; you honor the place. That’s like not the results goal, but that’s always like what our job is to do, is to do those two things. And we did that. We didn’t get it done today, and that hurts. Man, it doesn’t feel good, but I think when you zoom back a little bit, we did some good things as well.” And Matthew Boyd on how you use the feeling (Marquee): “I think when you get to put on those pinstripes, it’s really special and it’s something you realize it’s bigger than you. I think we all collectively know that. From spring training, Couns reminded us of that, and I believe we left it all out on the field. We came up short, we’re going to get better from it, but we did leave it all out on the field. We gave it everything we got. We’re going to use that experience to get to where we want to go next year and do everything we can to avoid this feeling next season.” The use-it-for-next-year thing often applies to younger players, who are still developing – both their baseball skills and also their training habits – but you can easily see how Boyd would feel it appropriate for himself. After so many years in the wilderness, he finally came back fully healthy this year to pitch a complete season. He was outstanding. But it’s also true that he wore down as the innings piled up and the year went on, and I expect that’s something he’ll be thinking about targeting this offseason. I’m just glad the Cubs already have him under contract for another season. It sucks to think about going through another season just to get another shot, but that’s what it has to be every single year for a good organization. Make the playoffs every year, see what happens. “The expectation of the organization, the expectation of the players, is to get back in the playoffs,” Ian Happ said, per the Sun-Times. “It’s really hard. It’s really hard to get here. It’s really hard to win playoff series against good teams. And so the fact that we expect to be here doesn’t make it hurt any less when you’re here and you don’t get it done.” © Michael McLoone-Imagn Images Speaking of Happ and of Boyd, they are two of a whole lot of players who are under contract through 2026 and only 2026 (which, by the way, is when the CBA expires). There’s also Carson Kelly, Nico Hoerner, Seiya Suzuki, and Jameson Taillon. Whatever:

— Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) October 12, 2025 The Angels are sorting through their managerial options, and are focused on former big-name Angels players:

Angels are talking to a couple others now beyond Albert Pujols regarding their managerial opening. No reason yet to believe Pujols isn’t the frontrunner. Torii Hunter is believed on their list. @SamBlum3 and @katiejwoo mentioned Torii

— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) October 13, 2025 The LCS round kicked off last night with the Mariners beating the Blue Jays 3-1 in Toronto. Dominant pitching throughout, but the Mariners’ group was just a bit stronger. MORE CUBS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
