Bears Injury Updates: Loveland, Gordon, Santos ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The Chicago Bears will not release their first official injury report of Week 6 until Thursday.

However, there are some updates worth sharing and discussing right now.

Kyler Gordon says he will play in Week 6

Seeing this tweet cross my timeline brought a big smile to my face:

Bears nickel corner Kyler Gordon says definitively he’s playing Monday at Commanders. Will be his season debut.

— Jason Lieser (@JasonLieser) October 7, 2025

Chicago Sun-Times reporter Jason Lieser shares word from Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon that he will play in the team’s upcoming game against the Washington Commanders. As Lieser points out above, it will be Gordon’s 2025 debut. Fans were expecting Gordon’s season debut to come on Monday Night Football when the Bears played the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1. But a hamstring injury popped up late in the practice week, landed Gordon on the injury report a little more than 24 hours before kickoff, and has ultimately kept him off the field to this point.

With two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson on IR and a handful of other injured Bears cornerbacks being unavailable, the return of Kyler Gordon to the lineup is a sight for sore eyes. Gordon, who signed a lucrative extension with the team back in April, is one of the NFL’s best nickel cornerbacks. Not only is he solid in coverage, but he is a willing tackler and is active in multiple facets of the game. I look forward to seeing how first-year Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen deploys Gordon in Week 6 (and beyond).

The latest on Bears rookie Colston Loveland

In more good news, Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland says he feels “good” as he deals with a hip injury that occurred during the tean’s Week 3 win against the Dallas Cowboys and kept him out of the lineup altogether in Week 4 versus the Las Vegas Raiders.

“I was over it pretty quickly,” Loveland said, via ESPN’s Courtney Cronin on Twitter/X. “I knew it wasn’t a season-ending injury. I was itching to get back as soon as possible.”

Phew! That is a relief. An initial report regarding the hip injury is that it wasn’t serious. However, it *WAS* serious enough to keep Loveland out of the game in Week 4. Hence, it is something to continue monitoring.

Perhaps giving him the week off ahead of the bye week will help matters. Even if it does, I am still concerned that the University of Michigan product mentioned that the injury is similar to one he dealt with while playing in college. Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate that Loveland knows that this is something he will have to deal with and presumably knows how to play through the pain. However, I don’t like that the rookie tight end who was selected with a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft already has some notable injury concerns.

Should we be on Jake Moody watch?

The last time we saw Bears kicker Cairo Santos, he was drilling four field goals (including a pair of 50-yarders) against the Raiders to help Chicago get a win before going into the bye. However, Santos was seen coming in and out of the blue medical tent late in that game because of a quad injury. Now, it seems that Santos’ availability for the team’s Week 6 game against the Commanders on Monday Night Football is in question.

Bear Report’s Zack Pearson with more:

"Yeah, we will see as we go through the week as to how he's feeling and looking." – Ben Johnson on kicker Cairo Santos who did not practice Tuesday. Johnson said they are taking it day-to-day. #Bears

Oof. Those words from Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson are not going to make me feel better about Cairo Santos’ situation.

At least the Bears have a contingency plan in Jake Moody, who was signed to their practice squad in September. Moody’s recent run with the San Francisco 49ers ended poorly. So much so that they dumped him in favor of ex-Bears kicker Eddy Piñeiro, who has made all 11 of his field goals in the four games he has been with the Niners. I’m holding out hope that a change of scenery will get Moody back to his All-American ways. And if Santos can’t get the green light, then you can expect to see Moody get promoted from the practice squad this weekend.
