We’re already halfway through the 2026 Commonwealth Games with the top tier of the overall swimming medal table continuing their strongholds in Glasgow.

Looking further down the line, however reveals that the nation of Wales is significantly improving upon its position at this same mile marker four years ago.

There in Birmingham, Wales ended the entire competition with 2 bronze medals as its sole pieces of hardware. That rendered the nation 9th and last in the standings.

Flash forward to now, however, and Wales has doubled its medal intake to already have captured 4 thus far, including 1 silver and three bronze.

Individual medalists include Rhys Darbey and Ela Letton-Jones in their respective Para events of the men’s S14 200m free (bronze) and women’s S13 100m freestyle (silver). The men’s 4x200m free and mixed 4x100m freestyle relays also captured bronze.

Tonight’s session includes additional medal possibilities, with 17-year-old Theodora Taylor holding an outside chance of raining on Australia’s parade in the women’s 100m freestyle final, as Tyler Melbourne-Smith will try to land on the podium in the men’s 800m free. The women’s 4x200m freestyle relay will also be in the water hoping for another medal to continue outperforming the Welsh total from Birmingham.
