What did Callahan achieve during 13-year NHL career?
Before he stepped into the ESPN studio, Cally made a name for himself on the ice.
He spent eight years with the Rangers, having first been called up in November 2006.
Callahan captained the team from 2011-14, and was the first New York native to have the honor of doing so. He was also the fifth-youngest captain in franchise history at the time.

Cally was traded to the Lightning in 2014, and helped Tampa Bay reach the Stanley Cup Final 12 months later.
During the second round of the 2015 playoffs, he underwent an emergency appendectomy, and missed Game 6 against the Montreal Canadiens as a result of the procedure.
Just five days after having surgery, he returned to the Lightning lineup for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final against his former Rangers team.

While that was as close as Callahan came to lifting the NHL’s top prize, he also won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and competed again in Sochi four years later.
In his statement about stepping away from ESPN, the former NHL star didn’t definitively state that his broadcasting career was over, but it seems he won’t be back on TV for quite some time.
