Matas Buzelis picked up right where he left off for the Chicago Bulls.
Suiting up for his first preseason game of Year 2, Buzelis wasted no time making his presence felt defensively. The forward found himself on an island with Evan Mobley along the perimeter. The Cavaliers’ big man took him off the bounce and weaved his way along the baseline into the paint. There was only one problem. Right before Mobley left his feet, Buzelis left his. The Bulls’ former lottery pick stuffed the Cavaliers’ All-Star with ease.

While he has a long way to go before establishing that reputation, there is no question that highlights like that will help.
Buzelis went on to finish his first rotational stint of the preseason with 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. He knocked down a triple, blew past the Cavs’ D in transition, and found his way to the free throw line. It was great to see a little bit of everything from the second year forward right off the bat!
By the way, Buzelis wasn’t the only one to record an early rejection. Julian Phillips showed off his epic verticality with a quick recovery on Nae’Qwan Tomlin. The Cavs’ forward thought he had a wide-open slam, but Phillips ran all the way from the perimeter to come in and bat the ball off the backboard.
