OAKLAND — A local resident was sentenced to a two-year probation term for being the getaway driver when a teen boy allegedly shot and killed a woman as she confronted another teen who had arranged to sell marijuana vape pens to the victim’s daughter, court records show.
Isaiah Gomez, 20, pleaded no contest to accessory after the fact. In late March, he was formally sentenced to probation and to 14 days he already spent in jail, court records show.
Gomez was charged last year after then-16-year-old Ivan Gonzalez, of Oakland, was charged in juvenile court with murdering 33-year-old Maria Ramos. Police said at the time of the August 2024 shooting that Ramos and her mother trailed a vehicle containing the three teens from the family’s East Oakland home to the nearby 5600 block of Hilton Street. When the car stopped, Gonzalez allegedly got out with a gun and fired multiple times at Ramos. She left behind eight children, family members have said.
The conflict started hours earlier, when Ramos’ teen daughter allegedly messaged an Instagram account for marijuana, later telling police she’d purchased vape pens from the teen before. When Ramos learned about it, she wanted to confront the dealer, who turned out to be a third teenager in the car with Gomez and Gonzalez, authorities said.
At some point before the shooting, one of the women allegedly sprayed the teens with pepper spray, according to authorities.
Gomez was released from jail, but equipped with a GPS ankle monitor after his arrest last year, court records show.
