Wayne Mardle cemented his place as one of the nation’s favourite sports commentators with another iconic moment.

Mardle was covering the opening night of the World Grand Prix and was watching Nathan Aspinall’s defeat to Luke Humphries, when ‘The Asp’ hilariously left the commentator with egg on his face.

The former player has transitioned into the commentary box and has become a huge fans’ favourite because his energy and passion for the game comes through at all times.

Mardle just loves darts, and he was spectacularly proven wrong by Aspinall.

The Asp was trying to finish double six to win the leg, but his first two darts blocked the bed, making it appear very difficult for Aspinall to finish.

Mardle implored him to move right, but Aspinall went left instead.

And of course, he nailed the throw, leaving Mardle laughing and leading to several fans praising the Englishman.

During the commentary he said: “Got to move. Got to go right.

“Go right, go right. Keep going.”

Aspinall then started to move left, and Mardle said: “No. No. No. Wrong way. Wrong way.”

He was then asked by fellow commentator Dan Dawson: “You don’t think he’s going to hit this?”

To which Mardle responded: “No, I do not.”

And on commentary, Mardle said: “One man misses, does the other man get? I have never seen the like.
