Pre-Gamin’: Bulls vs Nets (6:00 PM CT) – Projected Lineups, How to Watch, More ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Tonight, the United Center will be busy as the Chicago Bulls host the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets, who just snapped their five-game losing streak on Friday against the Bulls, appear ready to take it easy tonight, resting key players in Chicago.

They’re probably sitting this one out to watch the Chicago Bears take on the Los Angeles Rams, just like a good portion of the crowd inside the building will be. Expect plenty of phones out and split attention in the stands.

That said, this game has all the makings of a repeat of the Chicago sports success we saw the last time the Bears played, with Chicago coming in as favorites to handle business. And hopefully, for Alex’s sake — and for local guys Ayo Dosunmu and Matas Buzelis — the Bulls can dominate early and let everyone enjoy the Bears game uninterrupted. Matas showed he’s ready to Bear Down when he got to the UC.

What To Watch For

Michael Porter Jr. and Drake Powell will not play against Chicago tonight, both taking the night off. They were central to the Nets’ clutch possessions in their much-needed win, with Porter Jr. knocking down the go-ahead bucket and Powell coming up with the game-saving steal. With two starters sidelined, Chicago has a bit less to worry about defensively. That should allow the Bulls to focus their already-limited defense on players like Nic Claxton, Noah Clowney, Day’Ron Sharpe, and Cam Thomas.

— Brooklyn Nets (@BrooklynNets) January 17, 2026 In Friday’s loss, Chicago had six players finish in double figures, but struggled heavily from beyond the arc and got very little production from the bench early on. They trailed by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter, then somehow erased that deficit in the same quarter, only to fall short. One of the more interesting notes from the night was Jalen Smith playing the most minutes on the team off the bench. Given his consistently strong impact over the last stretch of games, it’ll be worth watching whether Billy Donovan finally puts him back into the starting lineup.

With a stat-line of 14 points and 13 rebounds, Jalen Smith picked up his 10th double-double in his two years for the Chicago Bulls. 4 last season and 6 this season! Should he be starting for the Bulls?#bulls #nba

— Joshua Miranda (@JoshAMiranda) January 17, 2026 Another thing to watch tonight is Patrick Williams. He exited Friday’s game with an ankle injury and is listed as questionable, and even if he does suit up, his minutes figure to be limited. That could open the door for players like Dalen Terry to see extended run with the second unit, a role he’s quietly handled well in limited minutes so far. With more opportunity, the Bulls’ rotations could start to look different going forward, maybe even one that doesn’t include Patrick Williams at all.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) January 17, 2026 The Brooklyn Nets are a better defensive team than they are an offensive one, but their three-point shooting still ranks top ten in the NBA. In their win over the Chicago Bulls, they outscored Chicago by 24 points from beyond the arc. Yes, a major scorer will be out tonight, but their identity isn’t going to change overnight. If the Bulls want any real chance to compete, defending the perimeter has to be the priority.
