For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Alison Su of Fremont, California has announced her commitment to swim and study at UCLA, starting in the fall of 2027, making her the first publicized commitment in the Bruins’ class of 2031. She trains year-round with Santa Clara Swim Club and attends Irvington High School.
Su made the announcement on Instagram, writing:
I’m beyond excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at UCLA! Thank you to my family for their endless love and support, all my coaches at SCSC who have guided and pushed me, and Coach Jordan and Coach Graham for this amazing opportunity! I’m also so grateful to my teammates, friends, and everyone who has been apart of my journey in and out of the pool. Looking forward to what’s ahead-Go Bruins!!!
The high school junior is a 50 and 100 freestyle specialist who also swims the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Su’s first major meet of the 2024-25 season came at Winter Junior Championships in December, where she finished 13th in the 100 free with her current best time of 49.64. She entered the meet with a personal best of 50.86 before shattering that mark by over a second in prelims when she logged 49.73. She also broke 23 for the first time in the 50 free, stopping the clock in 22.94 to place 22nd and eclipse her previous best of 23.18.
Beyond the freestyles, Su posted best times of 54.95 in the 100 back for 36th and 55.26 in the 100 fly for 60th. The 100 back remains her current best, while she lowered her 100 fly mark to 54.32 at a local meet in February.
Su wrapped up her season at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Championships in May, where she earned bronze in the 50 free and placed fifth in the 100 free. She broke 23 on two more occasions, hitting 22.94 in prelims to match her career best before producing 22.80 in the final. She went on to crack 50 for the third time in her career in the 100 free, notching 49.83 in prelims before touching fifth in the final with a time of 50.31.
As a freshman the year prior, Su did not even advance to the State meet, having secured third in the 50 free (23.75) and eighth in the 200 free (1:55.85) at the Sectional meet.
In the summer of 2023, Su was part of four Santa Clara Swim Club relays that broke 13-14 National Age Group records:

50 Freestyle: 22.80 100 Freestyle: 49.64 100 Butterfly: 54.32 100 Backstroke: 54.95The Bruins are led by head coach Jordan Wolfrum, who enters her seventh season at the helm of the program. In their first year in the Big Ten, UCLA took seventh out of 14 teams at the conference championships. The previous season, they had finished fourth at the Pac-12 Championships. They closed their year at NCAAs in Federal Way, Washington, where they placed 37th, scoring 7 points behind junior diver Eden Cheng.
The conference meet scores ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ finals, and it took times of 22.55 and 49.60 in the sprint freestyles, 53.45 in the 100 fly, and 53.97 in the 100 back to make the top 24 and score in 2025. Su’s time in the 100 free is already just 0.04 off what was required to score last February, and with two full seasons remaining before she arrives in Los Angeles, she’s poised to make an immediate impact.
On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Su would have ranked second in the 50 free, third in the 100 free and 100 fly, and sixth in the 100 back. Notably, all of the swimmers ahead of her in the sprint freestyles and 100 fly will have graduated by the time she joins the team.
