Manchester United travel to the Metropolitano Stadium in the Champions League on Tuesday night, desperate for a positive result against an Atletico Madrid side chasing a fifth consecutive victory.
Diego Simeone's men have enjoyed an encouraging run of form, whereas Michael Carrick's Red Devils have gone four games without a win since thrashing Sabah FK 4-0 in their European opener.
The Red Devils' poor form is particularly concerning given Atletico's attacking quality, with Julian Alvarez likely to pose a significant threat to the visitors' backline. If United are to leave Madrid with a result, they will need their defenders to keep the Argentina international quiet, including his compatriot Lisandro Martinez.
Alvarez scored against Liverpool in Atletico's opening Champions League clash and enjoyed an outstanding 2025-26 campaign, registering 20 goals and nine assists. He also recorded 14 goal contributions in 15 Champions League appearances, leading to reported interest from Barcelona and Arsenal.
