For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Sectionals finalist Isla Amuan will be sticking close to home next season, as the Massachusetts native has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Massachusetts Amherst beginning in the fall of 2027.
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst! I want to give a huge thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for supporting me every step of the way. I would also like to thank Coach Maiya and Coach Hueston for this amazing opportunity. Go Minutewomen! ”
A senior at North Andover High School, Amuan competed for her school’s varsity swimming and diving team as a freshman and a sophomore. She currently swims year-round with the Commonwealth Swimming Current in Boston, where she primarily specializes in free, back and fly.
Amuan turned in a strong showing at the 2026 INST-ABF Blizzard Classic in January, earning a second swim in five events and logging a personal best time in three events. She placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:54.74 – PB), 9th in the 200 back (2:14.56 – PB) and 100 fly (1:02.41), 11th in the 50 free (24.95) and 13th in the 200 IM (2:16.32 – PB).
Amuan posted another series of strong performances at the 2026 CRIM 15-18 Championships in February. She took 9th in the 50 back (27.53 – PB), 11th in the 200 free (1:53.82 – PB), 12th in the 100 free (53.01 – PB), 24th in the 50 free (24.68) and 35th in the 100 back (1:00.82).
At the 2026 Four Corners Sectionals Championship a few weeks later, Amuan earned a second swim in one event, the 100 free, and posted three lifetime best performances. She finished 38th in the 100 free in 52.39 after setting a best time of 52.26 during prelims, and she contested the 50 free (24.78), 200 free (1:55.29), 100 back (59.21 – PB) and 100 fly (59.04 – PB).
Best Times SCY:
50 free – 24.54 100 free – 52.26 200 free – 1:53.82 100 back – 59.21 100 fly – 59.04A Division I Mid-Major program, UMass Amherst competes in the Mid-American Conference, with the women’s team placing 7th at last season’s championship. To earn a second swim at the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships, it took times of 23.25/50.54/1:50.57 in the 50/100/200 free, 55.26 in the 100 back and 55.95 in the 100 fly, putting Amuan outside the cutoff in each of her top events.
On the team itself, Amuan would have ranked 3rd in the 100 free and 200 free, 4th in the 100 back and 6th in the 50 free and 100 fly last season, putting her in a position to be a strong contributor when she joins the team.
Currently set to join Amuan in Amherst next fall are Maeve Cutter (free/back/IM) and Vanessa Miecznikowski (free/back), who should both make for strong training partners throughout their four years together.
