"While the initial assessment has been completed, we will not resume normal operations until the device has been examined by specialized experts," Cody said in the letter.
An officer stayed at the campus overnight to secure it, and the Greeley bomb squad was set to arrive Monday morning to assess and remove the device, Coday said.
There are no classes for any grade level; athletic practices and on-site events are canceled; and school facilities are closed to the public.
"We understand this news is concerning for our community," Cody said. "The decision to close school was made in consultation with local authorities and reflects our commitment to ensuring a safe environment before bringing students and staff back to campus."
According to the letter, officials will provide an update at noon Monday regarding the status of school facilities and operations for Tuesday.
