Patrick Mahomes isn’t getting enough help from his offensive line.
The Kansas City Chiefs superstar running away from defenses has been a common theme this season — as it was in a humiliating Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mahomes is the heartbeat of the Chiefs offense and doing more work with his legs than ever beforeGettyMahomes was sacked a career-high six times by Gang Green in February, despite defensive coordinator Vic Fangio not bothering to dial up a single blitz.
Head coach Andy Reid addressed the problem left tackle position by selecting Josh Simmons Jr. in the first round.
But the opposite side of the line has been an issue, with Jawaan Taylor accounting for six of the nine penalties given up by the group through three games.
After Mahomes masterminded a win over the New York Giants to move the Chiefs to 1-2, Big Red leapt to the right tackle’s defense — pointing out that he was yet to give up a sack.
“When he’s not committing penalties, his percentage has been very good. You could say he’s one of the best tackles in pass protection,” Reid insisted.
Fans were annoyed that Reid refused to call out the former Jacksonville Jaguars lineman.
“He’s cost the team points with his penalties. That’s the difference between being 1-2 and 3-0,” one fan wrote.
“There are always penalties, Andy. That’s the problem,” added another.
“It’s irritating to see this,” a third posted. “It doesn’t matter how good his tackle play has been based off percentages. He has single-handedly been the cause of taking points off the board for the offense due to his penalties and part of the reason the Chiefs are 1-2 vs possibly being 3-0.”
“That idiot always lines up wrong, and he commits frequent penalties that hurt the team. How is it possible Andy Reid keeps defending him?” said a fourth.
“Jawaan Taylor is a penalty-killing machine when the offense is getting momentum” a fifth weighed in with.

Patrick Mahomes on Chiefs injury report
Mahomes was on the injury report all of last week before taking the field against the Giants and his wrist is still an issue.
The three-time Super Bowl champion logged a full practice but concerning still showed up on Wednesday’s injury report after picking up the knock against the Eagles in Week 2.
If Mahomes is struggling in any way, it will add more pressure to the O-line to keep him clean against a solid Ravens pass-rush.
Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice return
Xavier Worthy was also a full a participant in a potential boost for the depleted wide receiver corps.
The sophomore and rookie Jalen Royals have both been injured, with Rashee Rice banned for the first six games.
That has left Hollywood Brown and former New England Patriots flop Tyquan Thornton to pick up the pieces.
Mahomes has been impressed with Thornton, who ran a 4.28-second 40.

“Into training camp, he was one of those guys that was down there with me working in Texas, and so I knew he was gonna be a good football player, but he’s even exceeding my expectations.”
Rice has been allowed to return to the facility having served half of his suspension and Reid thinks his presence will be a lift, even though his star pass-catcher isn’t allowed to take part in drills.
“We do get 4 (Rashee Rice) back, and I know the guys will be fired up about that, to see him,” Reid said, via KC Sports Network. “He can’t practice, he can’t be on the field, but he can do the other stuff and just having him around, he’s a good, positive energy to have around.”
