Sport by : (GreeleyTribune) -

Colorado State sophomore linebacker Owen Long is leaving the program and entering the transfer portal.

Long announced his intention to transfer in a social media post Wednesday.

In the post, he said, “To my coaches, thank you for giving me the opportunity to play football for Colorado State University. I am beyond grateful for the chance to compete at this level, and my time here has been nothing short of incredible. To my teammates, I appreciate the brotherhood we built, and I’m excited to see what you all accomplish in the future. I couldn’t have asked for a batter group to play alongside on Saturdays.

“To all Rams fans, thank you for your love every weekend. It has been an absolute honor playing for you all. With that said, I will be entering the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining, keeping all options open. A big thank you to my family and friends for their endless support along the journey.”

Following a season in which he recorded a nation’s best 151 tackles and the seventh-highest single-season total in program history, Long was named a third-team All-American by the Associated Press.

He was the first CSU defensive player to earn AP All-American honors since Greg Myers in 1995 and Long just the fourth CSU defender to earn AP All-American honors, along with Myers, defensive lineman Mike Bell and linebacker Jeff Harper.

The transfer portal officially opens Friday and will run through Jan. 16.

Long joins a list of CSU players entering the portal that has now surpassed 30.

Offensive players entering the portal include quarterbacks Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and Jackson Brousseau, running backs Jalen Dupree, Justin Marshall, Lloyd Avant and Javion Kinnard, wide receivers Jordan Ross, Armani Winfield and Landon Bell, tight ends Jaxxon Warren, Rocky Beers and Jaden Landrum, offensive linemen Tanner Morley, Christian Martin, Aaron Karas and Aitor Urionabarrenechea and punter Bryan Hansen.

Defensive players leaving besides Long include linemen Ed’Mari Binion, Andrew Laurich, Caden Branston and Jackson Murray, linebackers Jeremy Naborne-Owens, Robert Edmonson, Drew Rodriguez, Whitefield Powell, Jett Vincent and defensive backs Kylan Studebaker, Chauncey Davis, Dylan Phelps and John Smith.

Rams announce offensive staff

CSU and new head football coach Jim Mora announced the Rams’ new offensive coaching staff in a series of social media posts Tuesday.

Mora, who was hired Nov. 26 as the 25th head coach of CSU football is bringing in an entirely new staff to lead the team’s offense beginning next fall.

Making the move with Mora to CSU from UConn is the team’s new offensive coordinator, Pryce Tracy. Tracy was the pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Mora last season.

“He’s a very aggressive and innovative mind and he will be an aggressive play caller,” Mora said of Tracy in a social media post. “He relates well to the players and helps bring out their best every day. I believe CSU fans are going to love the way he runs this offense.”

Christian Pace will be the team’s run game coordinator and offensive line coach. Like Tracy, Pace’s previous coaching stint was at UConn where he held the same positions. Matt Mitchell joins the offensive staff as the pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach after coaching quarterbacks at BYU from 2022-2025.

Kashif Moore also rejoins Mora’s staff as the team’s pass game specialist and wide receivers coach. Moore spent the last three seasons coaching receivers at UConn. Pat Welsh joins Mora’s staff as the tight ends coach after 12 seasons at Miami (Ohio). Welsh was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Red Hawks.

Other additions to the offensive staff include Kort Shankweiler, senior offensive analyst/assistant offensive line; Miles Fishback, assistant quarterbacks; Luke Hyde, assistant offensive line; Trey Mora, assistant quarterbacks and Jagger Pagano, assistant tight ends.

CSU has not yet announced its defensive staff, but Tyson Summers has been confirmed to return as the team’s defensive coordinator. Summers also served as interim head coach after Jay Norvell was fired on Oct. 19.
