The Japanese Swimming Federation (JASF) announced today that Olympic silver medalist Tomoru Honda will be banned from competition for a period of 21 months as a result of the serious driving offense with which he was involved last year.

With the ban extending until August of 2028, Honda will be unable to compete at the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

As we reported, Honda received a one-year prison sentence, which was suspended for three years, stemming from a ‘dangerous, reckless and malicious’ driving incident in which he failed to negotiate a curve and collided with another car, causing that driver to suffer injuries. He was removed from the Pan Pacific Championships and Asian Games rosters as a result.
