2026 SUMMER YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES
Sunday, November 1st – Friday, November 6th (pool swimming) Dakar, Senegal LCM (50m) Meet Central Day 1 Recap | Day 2 Recap | Day 3 Recap Results LivestreamDay four of the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games brought the speed, with multiple swimmers adding more hardware to their already impressive campaigns here in Dakar, Senegal.
Ana Bobanovic of Croatia already won the girls’ 100m freestyle earlier in the Games but was able to add 50m freestyle gold and 50m fly silver to continue her breakout performances.
In the former, 17-year-old Bobanovic reached the wall in a time of 25.45 to get the job done ahead of New Zealand’s Alyssa Lawson.
Lawson settled for silver a hair behind in 25.74, with Belarusian Paulina Bialiauskaya rounding out the podium in 25.97.
Then in the 50m fly, Bobanovic touched in a mark of 27.33 to settle for silver behind winner Serafima Fokina of Russia.
Fokina grabbed the gold in 27.28, while Mexico’s Victoria Fernanda Garcia also landed on the podium in 27.49, good enough for the bronze.
Finally on the girls’ side, Japan’s 17-year-old Mana Ishikawa collected her third gold of the Games, adding the 200m IM victory to her earlier wins in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
In the 2IM, Ishikawa stopped the clock at a solid result of 2:13.06, keeping Chang Mohan of China and Stela Megelova of Slovakia at bay.
Mohan was Ishikawa’s primary rival in the race, touching less than a second back in 2:13.90, while Megelova’s time of 2:16.38 kept her in the medal mix to earn the bronze.
After the race, Ishikawa told Olympics.com, “Since I knew it was the third medal that would be the toughest one, I put a lot of effort into it.
“So I am a little bit disappointed that I couldn’t achieve a personal best again today.
“I am, however, really happy I held on and secured the win, even with the swimmer next to me closing in right at the end.”
She’ll take on the 50m breaststroke later in the competition in her quest to obtain a fourth gold medal.
Teammate Iori Miyazaki secured the victory in the boys’ edition of the 200m IM, posting a time of 2:00.71 to reach the wall first.
That held off the 200m back champion here, Ariel Muchirahondo of New Zealand, who clocked 2:01.66 as the runner-up. Turkey got on the board, courtesy of Kirhan Yilmaz‘s performance of 2:02.91.
As for Miyazaki, the 17-year-old standout is following in his father’s footsteps when it comes to earning hardware on an elite international stage.
He is the son of 1996 Olympic swimmer Miyazaki Yoshinobu.
Analyzing his race, the young Japanese talent stated, “My time wasn’t all that, but (my father) told me to go and win a gold medal, so I like to think he’s happy.
“He is the closest Olympian to me. One day, I’ll have to surpass him.
“(My family) has had my back the whole time so I want to thank them first of all. I managed this result not only by myself but because of my family, my coach and friends. I owe it to them.”
Additional winners included Zdenek Prochazka of Czechia reaping the top spot in the boys’ 50m free, registering 22.54 as one of two sub-23-second performers.
Joining him under the barrier was runner-up Jaden Mills of Trinidad & Tobago, logging 22.99 ahead of Cyprus’ Andrew Marcus Laghoutis‘ effort of 23.04 as the 3rd-place finisher.
Then in the boys’ 50m fly, Zain Ali of Egypt earned another piece of hardware, delivering a time of 24.06.
That secured the victory ahead of Serbian Aleksej Kalanj who touched in 24.54, only a fingernail ahead of Laghoutis whose time of 24.57 gave him his second bronze of the session.
