The details and projections and plans are still pretty mum on Kyle Tucker, but you can hear from the man, himself, on his rehab time with his personal therapist in Tampa, and on how he’s feeling right now.
Kyle Tucker is back with the team after meeting with his personal PTs in Tampa. Says he still has a few more boxes to check before he can return but hopes to get in a game during this final week. — Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) September 23, 2025So, maybe feeling a little better. Running a little bit. Maybe able to get into a game later this week. Lots of maybes and uncertainties, which I don’t even think is Tucker being coy. I think this is just a situation that has baked into it a lot of maybes and uncertainties.
For his part, Craig Counsell is still begging off making any proclamations about the timeline or Tucker’s usage in the postseason if he isn’t able to get into games before then. “That’s a decision that is down the road that we’d have to make,” Counsell said, per the Tribune. “I haven’t really thought about that decision yet. I’m still hopeful we can get him in there (this week).”
In other words, it’s the definition of day-to-day. If I had to guess – and it’d be only that – the Cubs may prefer at this point to hold Tucker out until the final two or three games, minimizing the pre-playoffs exposure he’ll get to running the bases, but at least giving him SOME at bats a full game speed. Assuming no additional setbacks, of course.
The balance here is that you want Tucker back sooner rather than later, all else equal, but the worst case scenario is that he comes back just a click too early, really does some damage, and then he can’t play in the postseason at all. In other words, even though the regular season is about to end, it’s still kinda not the time to be overly aggressive in pushing. Save that for the Wild Card Series if you have to, especially because Tucker has shown before that he can succeed against big league pitching out of the gate without any kind of rehab stint.
